The 2010/11 gender monitoring provides updated
information on the situation of gender equality at ETH Zurich. The
trends observable in 2009 continued in 2010. For instance,
the proportion of women at the doctorate level soared up to nearly 32% in 2010.
The trends in the numbers of students, scientific staff and professors, however, are less promising.The proportion of female students has remained the same since 2003 and amounts to 30%. This means that, also in 2010, no increase in the number of female students could be achieved. On the contrary: Compared to the previous year, it has slightly decreased.
The proportion of women among scientific staff remained unchanged compared to the previous year, at 24.4%. A slight increase could be observed at the professorship level, where the proportion of women currently amounts to 10.8%. This increase is solely attributable to the higher number of women at the assistant professorship level. Relative to the previous year, the proportion of women among full and associate professors has slightly decreased to 8.0%.
The 2010/11 report focuses not only on the core data regarding the overall gender equality situation at ETH and its individual departments, but also on Diversity. In this context, the high and still growing degree of internationalization at ETH Zurich is particularly striking.
In addition to the existing core indicators of the 2009 report, the 2010/11 edition also includes an analysis of the proportion of women and men among technical and administrative staff.
